Buffalo Trace Bourbon is a the flagship bourbon whiskey produced by the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. It is bottled at 90 proof.
Buffalo Trace was first launched in 1999, the same year that Sazerac renamed Ancient Age Distilling Co. to Buffalo Trace Distillery. Sazerac had acquired the distillery in 1992, and named the distillery and brand for an ancient buffalo river crossing at the present-day distillery site.
The natural landscape between the Illinois prairies and Kentucky’s salt licks was shaped by the passage of large herds of American Bison. These herds carved out a network of pathways known as the Buffalo Trace. Native Americans recognized the significance of these trails and used them for travel, and later, they became vital routes for early settlers and military expeditions.
Buffalo Trace shares its recipe with Eagle Rare, Stagg, and E.H. Taylor, Jr., among other Buffalo Trace brands.
