Introduced in 2002, George T. Stagg shares the same bourbon recipe as Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, E. H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch, and several other bourbons from the distillery. It is always bottled uncut and unfiltered, and generally represents one of the highest-proof Buffalo Trace Antique Collection releases.

Sazerac Rye 18 Year-Old

Sazerac Rye 18 Year-Old was one of the original three releases in the first edition of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, released in 2000. The other two releases were Eagle Rare 17 Year-Old and W. L. Weller 19 Year-Old. It’s bottled at the same 90 proof as the standard Sazerac Rye, and is currently the oldest regularly-released rye from Buffalo Trace. Releases from 2005 through 2015 used the same rye whiskey that was distilled in 1985, aged 18 years, then stored in stainless steel tanks.

William Larue Weller is a wheated bourbon, bottled at cask strength. It shares the same mash bill as the rest of the Weller lineup as well as much of the Van Winkle family of releases. William Larue Weller was introduced with the 2005 Antique Collection, but was preceded by W. L. Weller 19 Year-Old, which was an extra-aged 90-proof release.

Until 2018, Eagle Rare 17 Year-Old was bottled at 90 proof, the same as the 10-year old edition. Starting in 2018, Buffalo Trace increased the proof to 101. That 101 proof strength is a tribute to the same strength as the original Eagle Rare used when the brand was launched in 1974 by Seagram.
