Introduced in 2016, Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style was the third release in Old Forester’s Whiskey Row Series. It is the highest-proof in the series, bottled at 115 proof.
Old Forester’s Whiskey Row Series began in 2014 with Old Forester 1870 Original Batch and highlights important milestones and production innovations throughout Old Forester’s history with each of four releases.
1920 represents the year that Old Forester’s first prohibition-era bottles were released. Although prohibition had begun, the Volstead Act of 1920 granted permits to continue production for medicinal use, which allowed Old Forester to continue production on Whiskey Row in Louisville.
Old Forester’s prohibition-era releases were bonded, bottled at 100 proof. However, according to Jackie Zykan, former Old Forester Master Bourbon Specialist, “If you had friends in the business during Prohibition, you could get your hands on some whiskey straight from the barrel. Whiskey Row 1920 is an insider’s sip, an expression of vintage barrel strength, with a perfect palate of warm autumn nuances.”
