Frank August Single Barrel is a bourbon produced by Frank August and is a limited release, cask strength expression. It is sourced from an undisclosed distillery and bottled by Bardstown Bourbon Company.
In 2022, CEO & co-founder Johnathan Crocker helped select ten barrels, which was then narrowed to a five barrel selection by enlisting the help of other industry veterans. The barrels ranged from 123-125 proof and were aged for 5.1 years.
For the 2023 release, an additional 15 barrels were selected for release by Crocker, Denny Porter (former Maker’s Mark and Heaven Hill master distiller), and Jane Bowie (former Maker’s Mark master blender and master of maturation). It was released alongside Frank August Case Study, a showcase of experimental expressions from the brand.
The whiskey is packaged in a custom-designed, minimalist bottle, even going so far as to use a removable back label that leaves no adhesive residue when removed.
Reviews
Its flavor profile is an uncommon pairing of flavors but they work exceptionally well together. Frank August Single Barrel is an improvement over their already impressive small batch release and the company is two for two in my book.
