A Midwinter Night’s Dram: The Encore is a limited release rye whiskey from High West that was released alongside Act 10 in 2022. Like the standard A Midwinter Night’s Dram expression, it is based on High West’s Rendezvous Rye. The Encore, however, uses white port barrels for finishing, as opposed to the ruby and tawny port barrels used for the regular release.
It is bottled at 101.6 proof, slightly higher than A Midwinter Night’s Dram’s 98.6 proof. The white port barrels used for finishing were harder for the distillery to source, and resulted in a whiskey with brandy-like characteristics. The Encore was originally intended to be blended into Act 10, but the distillery chose to release it on its own as a special release after tasting it.1Robb Report – High West Releases the 10th Edition of Its Coveted Shakespeare-Inspired Whiskey

Nose
Underripe apricots, ginger poached pears, soft licorice, apple butter on fresh bread, Earl Grey tea, a cedar box, geraniums after a spring rain.
Palate
Peach marmalade, grapefruit zest, Danish pastry with brandy drizzle, grated nutmeg, vanilla meringue pie, roasted pecans.
Finish
Marzipan and chocolate mint leaves. Enchanting.
