Old Grand-Dad Bonded is a 100-proof, bottled-in-bond whiskey produced by James B. Beam Distilling Co.
Like its counterparts in the Old Grand-Dad brand family, it uses a high-rye mashbill, which was favored by Basil Hayden, Sr. The Basil Hayden line of bourbons also features the same recipe for most of its releases.
The term “bonded” in Old Grand-Dad Bonded refers to the whiskey being produced under the regulations set forth in the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. This act ensures that the whiskey is made from a single distillery, in a single distilling season, by a single distiller, aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years, and bottled at exactly 100 proof.
The brand Old Grand-Dad itself has a long history, dating back to the 19th century. Old Grand Dad was first produced starting in the 1880s by Raymond B. Hayden, who named the brand after his grandfather, Basil Hayden Sr. Hayden’s portrait appears on the label of Old Grand Dad.
