Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is a bourbon whiskey produced by Heaven Hill Distillery. The Elijah Craig brand family is named for Reverend Elijah Craig, a Baptist minister and pioneer distiller who is sometimes credited with being one of the early proponents of aging whiskey in charred oak barrels.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is known for its high strength and robust flavor profile. It is released in small, limited batches three times per year (an A, B, and C batch), with each batch varying in proof and flavor characteristics. The whiskey is uncut and non-chill filtered, allowing it to retain its full-bodied and intense nature.
Until batch B523, each release had an impressive 12-year age statement. Starting with B523, Heaven Hill will be adding the age statement back to the front label, but in a way that will vary from batch to batch, much like the proof statement.
It is bottled at its natural cask strength, typically ranging from around 120 to 140 proof (60-70% alcohol by volume). This high proof delivers a powerful and intense drinking experience, with the flavors unfolding on the palate in a bold and concentrated manner.
Private Selection
Starting in 2021, Heaven Hill began offering private single barrel selections bottled at barrel proof, with age statements ranging from 8-12 years.
Batches
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is typically released three times each year, with an “A”, “B”, and “C” batch. The four-digit batch name represents the batch order, month, and year; for example, Batch B523 is the second (“B”) batch of the year, released in May (“5”) of 2023 (“23”).
