The President’s Choice is a single barrel, barrel strength bourbon released by Old Forester.
The current series was released in starting in 2018, and represented the first bottles to be filled on the new bottling line. The “President’s Choice” labels go all the way back to the 1940s, when George Garvin Brown II, the distillery’s president, selected barrels to be bottled as gifts for employees.
In addition to being one of the first barrel strength offerings from Old Forester, it was also one of the first for any of Brown-Forman’s Kentucky distilleries. King of Kentucky and Woodford Reserve Batch Proof also began to hit shelves in 2018 for the first time.
Each release represents a single barrel, which are numbered sequentially based on when they are selected for release. The President’s Choice is also notable for its age statement: because Old Forester uses heat-cycled warehouses, the majority of Old Forester’s bourbons tend to be 4-5 years old. By contrast, The President’s Choice features age statements from 6 to 10 years old.
