Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a bourbon produced by Woodford Reserve. Like the flagship Woodford Reserve bourbon, it is bottled at 90.4 proof.

It was introduced in 2012 as the first permanent line extension from Woodford Reserve since the brand was launched in 1996. In late 2016, the packaging was redesigned, introducing the current squat flask shape available today.

Double Oaked uses two different barrels as a part of its maturation: the first barrel is made of oak that has been air-dried outside for 9 months before being toasted and charred. After aging in that barrel, it is finished in a “second [barrel that] was deeply toasted before its light charring.”1Press Release The heavily-toasted barrel amplifies the whiskey’s flavors of honey, cream, and vanilla, according to Woodford Reserve.

Double Oaked was inspired by 2009’s Master’s Collection release, Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Seasoned Oak Finish, which took 7 year old bourbon and finished it for 8 months in staves that were air-dried for 3-5 years.

The distillery also releases Double Double Oaked annually as part of its Distillery Series. Double Double Oaked takes fully mature Double Oaked, and finishes it again in another heavily toasted, lightly-charred new oak barrel for an additional year.
