Wild Turkey Rare Breed is a barrel proof bourbon produced by Wild Turkey. It was first released in 1991, and is one of the oldest continuously-released barrel proof bourbons on the market today.
Wild Turkey’s bourbons enter the barrel at between 107-115 proof, lower than the maximum-allowed 125 proof used by most distilleries. As a result, Wild Turkey’s barrel proof offerings tend to differ from other brands’ 120- and 130-proof cask strength offerings. As of 2023, the highest-proof Rare Breed batch was 116.8 proof.
Batches
Prior to 2013, Rare Breed batches were identified by a batch number printed on the neck label. Today, batches are identified by their unique proof, and the batches are often spread over multiple years. For example, Rare Breed has been released at 116.8 proof since 2016.
