The brand has a rich history, dating back to 1940. That year, Thomas McCarthy, an executive at Austin Nichols, unintentionally gave birth to the Wild Turkey Bourbon brand. McCarthy organized an annual wild turkey hunt with his friends at a South Carolina estate and was asked to bring whiskey to the gathering. He chose a sample of undiluted 101 proof bourbon from the warehouse. The next year, his friends requested more of “that wild turkey bourbon,” and the brand was born.
