WhistlePig 12 Year Old World Rye

WhistlePig Old World Rye Aged 12 Years is a rye whiskey produced by WhistlePig. It is aged for a full 12 years before finishing, then bottled at 86 proof.

It launched as a 95% rye / 5% malted barley recipe produced by MGP, but has transitioned to a 100% rye recipe produced by Alberta Distillers in Canada. It was the first barrel-finished whiskey in WhistlePig’s lineup, and is made up of a blend of old-world wine finishes:

  • 63% rye finished in Madeira
  • 30% rye finished in French Sauternes
  • 7% rye finished in Port

The WhistlePig 12-Year Old World Rye followed the release of WhistlePig’s Old World Series, which were three different Canadian rye whiskeys, each aged for 12 years and finished in either Madiera, Sauternes, or Port, and bottled at 90 proof.

Private Selection

WhistlePig also offers “Bespoke Blend” private selections, where a retailer or account can create their own blend. As a part of the selection process, a retailer can choose different percentages of each of the 12-year’s standard Old World finishes, or WhistlePig may also make different finishing barrels available, such as Tokaji, Cognac, or Rivesaltes.

Bespoke Blend releases are identifiable by the black label on the lower front of the bottle and a selection sticker on the shoulder of the bottle.
