W.L. Weller Full Proof is a wheated bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery and is part of the distillery’s W.L. Weller family. It is non-chill filtered and bottled at 114 proof.
W.L. Weller Full Proof is made using the same wheated bourbon recipe that is shared by other W.L. Weller bourbons and the renowned Pappy Van Winkle lineup. The mash bill uses a high proportion of corn, along with malted barley and a significant amount of wheat. The use of wheat instead of rye in the mash bill contributes to a softer and smoother flavor profile.
W.L. Weller Full Proof is bottled at the same proof that it is barreled at, as opposed to a cask strength release. “Cask strenth” or “barrel proof” means that it is bottled at the same proof that it is dumped from the barrel after aging, while “full proof” means that it is proofed down to to the strength that it was when went into the barrel.
It is the highest-proof expression in the W. L. Weller lineup aside from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection’s 12-year, cask-strength William Larue Weller release.
