Michter’s 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Michter’s 10 Year Bourbon is a premium bourbon whiskey produced by Michter’s Distillery, a renowned distillery based in Louisville, Kentucky. This bourbon is known for its high quality and limited availability, as it is aged for a minimum of 10 years to develop its unique flavor profile.

The exact composition of the mash bill is a closely guarded secret, contributing to the distinct taste of this bourbon. Although Michter’s doesn’t reveal the source of any of the bourbons used for this release, there are some rumors floating around:

  • Batches that start with 7K or 10H: Rumored to be Stitzel-Weller bourbon
  • Other batches before 2015: Rumored to be sourced from Heaven Hill
  • 2015-present: Brown-Forman contract-distilled bourbon

Michter’s 10 Year Bourbon is typically released annually, but a release was skipped in 2022 when the distillery announced that they plan to delay the “barrels originally slated to be bottled this year for one further year of aging.1Press Release” Michter’s is proud of their history of waiting to bottle their whiskey until they feel it is time: the company’s late Master Distiller Willie ‘Dr. No’ Pratt earned his nickname “for his refusal to release any whiskey until he felt it was just right.”

A private barrel selection bottling of this whiskey sold for £166,000 ($209,462 USD) at an auction in London on July 12, 20202Michter’s Bourbon Barrel Fetches Over US$209,000 at London Charity Auction, Sets Record, which broke  the previous $78,000 record for a barrel of bourbon.
