Knob Creek 15 Year Old is a limited-edition bourbon released by James B. Beam Distilling Co. as a part of the Knob Creek brand family. At the time of its release, it was the oldest age statement ever released by Knob Creek.
The 15-year old whiskey’s history dates to when Knob Creek’s standard bourbon did not have an age statement, so older stocks were used to blend into that whiskey. When the 9-year age statement returned, the company opted not to blend in the 15-year old barrels and instead opted to bottle it as a limited release.1Robb Report
Its release followed the slow disappearance of 120 proof, 15-year-old private barrel selections in 2020, which were relatively common for private retailers to be able to get. Those selections began to be replaced by 9-10 year old barrel picks, leaving Knob Creek’s limited releases as the only way to try extra-aged whiskey from Beam.
Two batches of Knob Creek 15 Year Old have been released – the first hit shelves in 2020, and it was followed with another bottling in 2021. In 2022, the distillery introduced Knob Creek 18 Year Old.
