Burnside Buckman RSV Bourbon

Burnside Buckman RSV is a bourbon produced by Eastside Distilling for their Burnside brand. It was released in celebration of the distillery’s 10th anniversary in 2018. It has the oldest age statement out of any of the Burnside whiskeys. Since 2018, it’s been released several additional times1Instagram.

Eastside finished this sourced bourbon in Oregon oak (also known as quercus garryana) casks. This is an uncommon wood to use, considering most American whiskey is finished in Missouri oak.

Eastside’s tasting notes read, “bold spiced fruit bread with citrus and peppercorn and faint aromatics of apple fruit and wood. The flavor opens with assertive oak and moves over the palate with dry floral tannins. The warmth is welcoming and lends notes of lemon peel and burnt sugar. The finish is long and dry.”

According to Eastside Distilling, Quercus garryana “is almost sponge like from the fast growing it does in the wet Oregon winters. Not only does it soak up the whiskey and deeply flavor it, it has high contents of dessert tannins that are perfectly complementary to bourbon, whiskey and ryes, while also imparting the terroir of the fertile valley soils.”
