Burnside Buckman RSV Barrel Strength is a bourbon produced by Eastside Distilling for their Burnside brand. It was first released in May 2021, a few years after the 92-proof, 10th anniversary Burnside Buckman RSV Bourbon hit shelves.
This barrel strength expression is bottled at 102 proof, and is sourced from an undisclosed distillery.
Like all Burnside whiskeys, Eastside finished this bourbon in Oregon oak (also known as quercus garryana) casks. This is an uncommon wood to use, considering most American whiskey is finished in Missouri oak.
According to Eastside Distilling, Quercus garryana “is almost sponge like from the fast growing it does in the wet Oregon winters. Not only does it soak up the whiskey and deeply flavor it, it has high contents of dessert tannins that are perfectly complementary to bourbon, whiskey and ryes, while also imparting the terroir of the fertile valley soils.”
