Buffalo Trace Kosher Straight Rye Whiskey

Buffalo Trace Kosher Straight Rye Whiskey is a rye whiskey produced by Buffalo Trace Distillery under the guidance of the Chicago Rabbinical Council (cRc).

This expression shares its mashbill with the Sazerac Rye family. It is aged for 7 years and bottled at 94 proof.

Kosher law mandates that whiskey should not be owned or consumed by Jews during Passover as it is a leavened, or fermented, grain product. Buffalo Trace’s parent company, Sazerac, is a private company owned by William Goldring, who is Jewish. In 2012, the cRc oversaw the sale of new American Oak Kosher barrels to Buffalo Trace Distillery President Mark Brown, who is not Jewish.

Before bottling, the bottling lines are flushed to make sure that the dumped Kosher barrels did not come into any contact with non-Kosher spirits.

Buffalo Trace’s Kosher whiskey expressions are released annually after passover ends on a limited basis.
