Basil Hayden Toast is a year-round bourbon produced by James B. Beam Distilling Co. that is part of the Basil Hayden brand family. Like all whiskeys in the Basil Hayden portfolio, it is bottled at 80 proof.
While most Basil Hayden releases use a high-rye mashbill, Toast represents the first that uses an entirely-new mashbill for Beam, replacing the rye content with U.S.-grown brown rice. It gives the whiskey more sweetness than the spice-forward rye content.
It uses a unique blending process, first aging the brown rice bourbon in oak barrels, then finished in toasted barrels, and finally blending in more brown rice bourbon that had aged in level-four char barrels. The result is a whiskey with “complex flavor grounded in sweet vanilla and rich roasted notes,” according to the distillery.
