Nathaniel “Nearest” Green is the first known African-American master distiller and is credited with teaching Jack Daniel how to make whiskey while enslaved.
The back label features the signature of Uncle Nearest Master Blender Victoria Eady Butler, the first known African-American woman Master Blender in the American spirits industry.
Uncle Nearest 1884 Premium Small Batch Whiskey is filtered through sugar maple charcoal via the Lincoln County Process, letting the whiskey filter through sugar maple charcoal for 14 days before barreling.
1884 is bottled at 93-proof as a tribute to Nathaniel Nearest, as it is believed his whiskey was bottled at or near that proof.
