This release is named for Buffalo Trace’s first master distiller, Elmer T. Lee. Lee joined the distillery in 1949 as a maintenance engineer, and worked for Buffalo Trace for over 50 years.
He was known for innovating single barrel bourbon releases and, more specifically, for bringing Blanton’s to market. Buffalo Trace claims Blanton’s is the world’s first mass-produced single barrel product.
Elmer T. Lee bourbon uses a high-rye mash bill, which adds a spicy and robust character to the whiskey. Buffalo Trace’s higher-rye mash bill #2 is also used for Rock Hill Farms, Blanton’s, Hancock’s Reserve, and Ancient Age.
Elmer T. Lee bourbon is released as a single barrel bourbon, meaning each bottle is drawn from an individual barrel. This allows for slight variations between each bottling, adding an element of uniqueness and intrigue for whiskey enthusiasts.
