Kentucky Peerless Double Oak Bourbon to be available at retailers for the first time
Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. will be releasing their popular Peerless Double Oak Bourbon at retailers outside the distillery for the first time. Bottles will be available in Kentucky, California, Illinois, Florida, and New York.
Previously a distillery-only bottling released at varying intervals, Double Oak was originally created as a way for the distillery to rescue whiskey from a leaky barrel. If a barrel was unrepairable, Peerless would move the whiskey to a new charred oak barrel for further aging.
However, the distillery is no longer waiting for leaky barrels. "Where in the past we would leave things up to chance, we are now intentionally curating barrels to become Double Oak,” said Master Distiller Caleb Kilburn.
The second barrel gives the bourbon "unparallelled complexity as well as a heavy mouthfeel," and tasting notes mention that the most pronounced flavors include including spicy oak, cinnamon, honey, and leather.
