Diageo opens new Lebanon, KY facility, the first carbon-neutral distillery in North America
Diageo has opened its new, 72,000 square-foot distillery in Lebanon, KY. North America's first carbon-neutral distillery, it uses 100% renewable electricity, consisting of wind and solar energy to power the boilers, electric forklifts and trucks, lighting and equipment.
Bulleit products are already being produced at the new facility, and will be the primary brand at the site, though other Diageo products will be distilled there in the future as well.
According to the company, the sustainability efforts are the equivalent of taking more than 25,000 cars off the road for a year, avoiding more than 117,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
Diageo has cut their carbon emissions in half since 2008, and are working toward being carbon neutral across the company by 2030. For more information about the company's extensive sustainability efforts, check out the press release or the video below.
