Basil Hayden Subtle Smoke coming soon, Toast to launch next week

Basil Hayden Subtle Smoke

63% corn, 27% rye, 10% malted barley

Update (April 6, 2022): This has now been officially announced by Beam, and will be available starting in April 2022 for $50.

A new label from Jim Beam Distillery's Basil Hayden line has just been approved by the TTB, giving us an early look at what's coming for the brand.

Basil Hayden Subtle Smoke will be mature Basil Hayden that is finished in hickory smoked, new charred oak barrels. According to the label, the release will have "delicate campfire notes that elevate the maple sweetness and soft char."

Back in February, we saw Basil Hayden Toast make its way through the TTB, and it looks like that expression will be officially announced on August 2. We expect to see an updated packaging design across the brand's new releases.

Basil Hayden is Beam's premium entry-level brand, in which all of the expressions are bottled at 80-proof (the minimum to be classified as bourbon) and share a high-rye bourbon recipe.

* Note: This article uses information from the U.S. Department of the Treasury Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). Whiskey labels are approved by the TTB weeks or months ahead of their release and public announcement, so details about pricing and availability aren't available yet. Furthermore, any proof statements on the label may be placeholders and might change before the official release announcement. However, everything else on the label will appear as it does here, so this gives us a great early look at an upcoming release.
