Willett Distillery

Willett is a family owned distillery located in Bardstown, KY. It was founded in 1936 by the Willett family. The first whiskey produced by the distillery was branded as Old Bardstown.

In the 1970s, the distillery transitioned to producing ethanol in response to the energy crisis. When this business failed, the distilling facilities were decommissioned in the early 1980s.

Even Kulsveen and Martha Harriet Willett purchased the distillery in 1984 and renamed the company Kentucky Bourbon Distillers (KBD). The new company sold old Willett barrels that had been aging in the company’s warehouses, and began to source bourbon from other distilleries.

In January 2012, KBD began using the Willett name again and began distilling on-site again.
